PT Rekayasa Industri (Rekind), on Wednesday, 11 September 2024, had a special guest. The guest was Jonna Aman Damanik, Commissioner of the Indonesian National Commission on Disabilities.

On that day, the man, who is also blind, brought a little of the big picture about the importance of building perspective and awareness about disabilities in the work environment to several Rekind employees and Top Leaders. This description was taken and then expressed in the Sharing Session for Leaders, entitled: Building a Disability Perspective with Top Leaders of PT Rekayasa Industri.

Almost, One Men’s Daily, which is known to be outspoken in fighting for the fate of people with disabilities in the country, discussed at length to explore the extent of Rekind’s role in advancing a commitment to creating a more inclusive and friendly work environment for all employees, including those with special needs.

One thing that came to the fore and caught Jonna’s attention was that Rekind recently provided educational assistance for independent children with Down syndrome at the Insan Anugerah school, Cinere, Depok, West Java. Not only that, Rekind also supports the independence of these children by bringing them to several prestigious national and international exhibitions in Jakarta recently. Understandably, several children with special needs are skilled at making Mosaic Coffee, which is sold freely. This ability to be independent is what Rekind continues to prioritize. The goal is for many people to have a similar awareness, especially to provide a special place for them as a provision in living life. The steps taken by Rekind are seen as an effort to remove the stigma related to disability, which is still strongly embedded in people’s daily lives.

“If we understand, disabled friends are just as “perfect and normal” as non-disabled friends. Even though they are blind, they can still read like non-disabled people, because the technology supports and supports all of this. So, there is no longer a solid partition separating them. This perfection is up to Allah SWT to create “rejected goods”? “There must be meaning and wisdom behind it all,” explained Jonna when speaking.

This sharing session program also includes simulation sessions that provide direct experience of various types of disabilities, so that participants can better understand and empathize with the daily challenges faced by their colleagues. The programs implemented include adjustments to physical facilities to meet accessibility needs, as well as flexible policies related to work schedules and tasks to support employees with disabilities.

Diversity and inclusion are key to creating an innovative and productive work environment. With this program, we hope to build a better understanding of disabilities and ensure that every individual, regardless of ability, feels valued and has the same opportunity to succeed,” said SVP Human Capital Rekind Lani Sukma ID.

With this initiative, Rekind Top Leaders are invited to not only commit to increasing awareness and understanding of disabilities but also commit to creating a more inclusive and fairer workplace for all employees.
